The House of Atish Dipankar

Dipankara Srignana Atisa, born in 980 A. D. was one of the most illustrious and prolific scholar of the Buddhist world. He was a scion of the royal Chandra family of Vajrajogini near Dhaka and contemporary of Nayapala, son of Mahipala. He went to Tibet at the age of 59, Preached Buddhism there, composed over 168works on Vajreyana, ‘Sutras’ and general doctrines of the ‘Mahayana’ of which “Bodhipatha-Pradipa” was most prominent. Before going to Tibet at the request of the king he was the high priest of ‘Vikrampsila Mahavihara”, and Odantipur (Magadha) Viharas. After living for 13 years in Tibet.
