Shankar Hazra

Born
in April 1942, Hazra became a household name in the 1960s and 1970s
for his exploits in football, hockey and cricket. In his days,
Hazra played all these sports and normally ended up playing for
the winning side.
Hazra
was a regular in the Pakistani football team from 1963 to 1969.
He was normally selected whenever the Pakistan team had a match
in Dhaka.
Hazra
was the vice-captain of the youth side in 1965. In 1971 the Swadhin
Bangla football team was formed and Hazra played as an international
for Bangladesh only in 1973. But his romance with football was
all but over after his retirement and apart from hockey, Hazra
also became a successful football coach. He became an interim coach
for Mohammedan Sporting Club.
